Tupac once said, “I know it seems hard sometimes but remember one thing; through every dark night there’s a bright day after that. So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out, keep ya head up…. and handle it,” and let me tell you Pop Artist Tonia Calderon has found her bright day and is handling her business.
Calderon is a self-taught artist/painter who dreamt that one day she would be doing something creative with her life, and the dream has come true
Tonia is an artist who paints pictures of musicians featuring their lyrics in an acrylic type background giving a look that has not been seen before. “My first portrait was of Tupac, his words inspire me and I used to just sit and listen to his songs on repeat,” explained Calderon.

Calderon did not have a storybook life growing up describing that there were some up times and there were down times but her mother always provided for Tonia and her siblings. “There were times when we were well off to when we had very little but through all the trials and tribulations we made it.”
Tonia’s pop art is inspired by her love of music and she believes that all of her art up until today and henceforward will always be inspired by the music she loves. “My first painting is in the same style and series that I am still working on today,” says Calderon
Calderon’s talents have warranted her a lot of looks for their uniqueness and beauty and has allowed her to be a part of several non-profits such as, Stand Up and the Tupac Foundation where she has showcased her art for donation and auction to raise money.
Tonia will be having some of her work featured at the National Hip Hop Museum in New York when it grand opens this summer.
Currently she is jet setting everywhere right now making appearances in Atlanta, NY and Europe. “I am in the works of opening up my own gallery currently, and I have no intention of slowing down anytime soon,” explains Calderon.
We here at the Lore think Tonia’s work is on point and believe that this girl is going to be huge and even bigger then she is today take a look at her website, www.ToniaCalderon.com and stay tuned for what she has in store. We would like to thank Tonia For Sitting down and talking with us.
