Hover Boards.

I wanted to do a piece on Hover Boards. For one, skateboarding is a huge passion of mine, and two, the concept is freaking sweet.

We have seen a lot of concepts come out and they all look really neat for what they are trying to bring to the table. Lexus came the closest but real world application just isn’t there. I want something I can cruise on. that I can take downtown and shred the pavement. So although cool, maybe we just aren’t there yet for practical use, until I stumbled across a company simply called HoverBoard.

Now we have all seen those drift boards. people gliding around but I’ve always wanted something more skateboardesque. Now the Hoverboard Technologies board doesn’t actually hover but is more like a drift skateboard with a singular wheel and the concept is not only interesting but it looks amazing as well. The specs on this board are pretty impressive:

Charge time: 16 Minutes

Charge Last: 12 Miles

Speed: 16MPH !!

Weight: 25lbs

The Hoverboard is an impressive piece of technology and comes with all the fixings. Included with  this are customized wheels and lights, speakers to create a gnarly sound track for your day, and eventually possible wheel changes (off road perhaps?!). Here is the video that the Hoverboard Technologies team produced for their Kickstarter campaign:

Now you aren’t going to be taking this board down halfpipes anytime soon, but cruising around town, absolutely! With all this amazing tech and design does come with a hefty price tag. The Kickstarter Campaign is now over but the pre-order price was $3,775. I’m thinking the consumer version will be around $4,000. Even so if you can take out a small loan and pay bit by bit, it may just be worth it. I look forward to seeing the demo days that these guys have in store.

(Although the campaign didn’t reach funding Hoverboard Technologies still has every intention on releasing this product in Summer 16)

October 21, 2015 is a day that many people in the sneaker world and movie world have been waiting for, for 30 years. It is officially the day that Marty McFly goes to the future to intervene so that his son doesn’t go to Jail.

Why is this so important you might ask? It’s important because it is the culmination of expectation for future (i.e. present) but after today it will be the first time in History that this movie takes place in the past. Whaaa, mind blown.

Three futuristic inventions stick out to most people when they hear Back to the Future II; Hover Boards, Flying Cars, and Power Laces.

I walked outside and looked in the sky, No flying Cars. I went in my house and took the wheels of my skateboard…. nothing happened but when I jumped on my computer at 4:00 PM EST something amazing happened; Michael J Fox unveiled a power lacing shoe

    Tinker and Michael J Fox

This was a pinnacle moment for fans all over the world. But lets look deeper at a few things that Back to the Future did get right, because beyond the big three there were some things that were pretty spot on.

    Wink: In Home Automation

Wink is a company that has made it so your whole house can be connected. Are you opening the door with your thumb print, not exactly, but take your phone out unlock the door, turn the lights on, and set the temperature all before you walk in you betcha.

Smart Herb Garden: In home Gardening

Now are we sitting at our kitchen Table yelling “Fruit Please” as an indoor garden drops down from above, no. However Smart Herb Garden has done an amazing job at creating an indoor garden that can pretty much sustains itself in any home. Strawberries, tomatoes and other herbs can all be grown on any countertop.

    Ziosk: Waiter-less Restaurants:

If only Ronald Reagan was taking orders at Chili’s that would be amazing, but that’s not happening. So for now we will settle for Ziosk: The Table Top Waiter. Ziosk allows you to put your order in, order refills, play games, and even pay. We are heading towards a non-waiter world, and of course it all started with the Café 80’s.

Back to the Future will always be a cultural staple that showcased what some of the most creative minds could come up with for a fun positive future. 30 years ago the movie hit the big screen and I for one can’t wait to see what will come about in the next 30 years.
