October 21, 2015 is a day that many people in the sneaker world and movie world have been waiting for, for 30 years. It is officially the day that Marty McFly goes to the future to intervene so that his son doesn’t go to Jail.
Why is this so important you might ask? It’s important because it is the culmination of expectation for future (i.e. present) but after today it will be the first time in History that this movie takes place in the past. Whaaa, mind blown.
Three futuristic inventions stick out to most people when they hear Back to the Future II; Hover Boards, Flying Cars, and Power Laces.
I walked outside and looked in the sky, No flying Cars. I went in my house and took the wheels of my skateboard…. nothing happened but when I jumped on my computer at 4:00 PM EST something amazing happened; Michael J Fox unveiled a power lacing shoe
This was a pinnacle moment for fans all over the world. But lets look deeper at a few things that Back to the Future did get right, because beyond the big three there were some things that were pretty spot on.
Wink: In Home Automation
Wink is a company that has made it so your whole house can be connected. Are you opening the door with your thumb print, not exactly, but take your phone out unlock the door, turn the lights on, and set the temperature all before you walk in you betcha.
Smart Herb Garden: In home Gardening
Now are we sitting at our kitchen Table yelling “Fruit Please” as an indoor garden drops down from above, no. However Smart Herb Garden has done an amazing job at creating an indoor garden that can pretty much sustains itself in any home. Strawberries, tomatoes and other herbs can all be grown on any countertop.
Ziosk: Waiter-less Restaurants:
If only Ronald Reagan was taking orders at Chili’s that would be amazing, but that’s not happening. So for now we will settle for Ziosk: The Table Top Waiter. Ziosk allows you to put your order in, order refills, play games, and even pay. We are heading towards a non-waiter world, and of course it all started with the Café 80’s.
Back to the Future will always be a cultural staple that showcased what some of the most creative minds could come up with for a fun positive future. 30 years ago the movie hit the big screen and I for one can’t wait to see what will come about in the next 30 years.
